These best escape rooms in Surrey will have your heart pounding as you crack clues against the clock to make your hopeful escape.
Over the past few years, escape rooms have boomed in popularity. For those who do not know, escape rooms are live game experiences where you are placed in a room with the aim of getting yourself out of the room within an allocated time (usually one hour). But of course, it is not as simple as it sounds, the room is filled with a number of different challenges, puzzles and objects which you must first tackle in order to earn your escape. They are designed to be played as part of a group, making it a great way to catch up friends or for a work team-building exercise. With the boom and demand for escape game experiences, creators have had to get inventive which has led to some fantastic themed rooms popping up all over the world. My personal favourite was a Teenage Ninja Turtle Room which I played in Kyiv – you were even given a pizza on escape!
Having now played many escape rooms across Europe, other than Kyiv, many of my favourites have been in the UK and it has made me extremely happy to discover some top escape rooms in Surrey.
Best Escape Rooms in Surrey
The Escape Rooms based in Horton Country Park is one of the newest editions to Surrey’s escape room. They currently have four different rooms on their site, however, my recommendation is for Operation Sealion.
‘It’s 1940, Hitler is plotting the invasion of Great Britain under the code name Operation Sealion. The French resistance claim to have gained valuable intel and have the information stored in an inconspicuous café in Paris. As British Intelligence you must rendezvous in the storeroom and work quickly to recover the hidden documents. The enemy are on to you! You have 60 minutes to foil Hitler’s plans and escape.’
With a difficulty of 4/5 it is one of their harder rooms but it is a lot of fun. If you are looking for a simpler room then book in for ‘The Curse of Old Maid Milly’ or if you want the ultimate challenge the ‘Challenge Chambers is rated 5/5 on difficulty.
Epsom Escape’s rooms are designed for 2-7 players.

Situated in the Guildford Town Centre this room is perfectly situated to combine with dinner afterwards. This is one of the more expensive rooms (£95) priced per room rather than per person. However, you can have up to 6 players so if you can get a good group of you then it works out good value for money at £15 per person.
At present, they only have one other room named ‘Venus’ but a new room is currently being built and planned for an opening during 2020.
‘Vince Baxter, New York’s infamous crime boss, is on trial for the murder of Roxanne’s brother, Stanley Steele and with only an hour left in the case, the prosecution really need Larry’s evidence to finally convince the judge of Vince’s guilt. The only problem is that Private Investigator Larry Maxwell is unconscious in hospital, caused by a mysterious ‘accident’ yesterday.
Only Larry knows the whereabouts of the gun that ties Vince to the murder.
Can you find the missing evidence to send Vince down?’
If you are looking a beginner’s escape game experience in surrey then book for Bunker 38 at Clue HQ. Rated 1/5 in difficultly this room is perfect for beginners or those who are not looking to take it too seriously.
‘You’ve been living in an underground bunker for years due to a radiation leak. Now you’ve been given the all clear, but you’re locked in and oxygen levels are running low! With only 60 minutes of breathable air left, will you be able to escape in time?’
Clue HQ has 5 rooms in total, all with different levels of difficulty. For those looking for a more challenging room here then I can recommend ‘End of the Line’ a London Underground themed room. Please note this particular room is set to 3 player minimum.
Located on the outskirts of Guildford this escape experience is next on my list to visit after various recommendations. They currently have 3 different rooms The Bomb, The Sub and The Lab. The Lab is a zombie-themed room where you are challenged to find a cure to a virus before the time runs out.
Annoyingly, all the rooms at this site at set to a 3 player minimum (max 7) but they do allow kids to get involved, which I have found to be quite rare at different sites.

Technically, this room is not in Surrey, it is on the borders in West Sussex but The Mutiny room here is so well themed it is one of my favourites and I had to recommend it.
‘It’s the year of our Lord 1672, and you be right in the height o’ the golden age o’ piracy…
After years of sailin’ the high seas, you and your crew have succeeded in your fair share of ambushes, and as a result – your ship is teamin’ with bounty.
Yet you’re still suffering beneath the cruel wrath o’ Captain Starling – a notoriously bloodthirsty buccaneer, and your shipmates have decided you all shall take matters into your own hands. After all… you fought for the gold, so the gold is yours for the taking, aye?
Once the old seadog has retreated to his berth for the night, you make your move. Get in, get the treasure and get out. You won’t have long before he starts to stir – and Starling shows no mercy to ANY soul…’
Set for 2-8 players with a difficulty of 3/5 this room is a lot of fun. Alongside Mutiny, there are 4 different rooms including a horror room and western themed. It is also worth pointing out Tulley’s are currently ranked at number 2 in the world for escape rooms.
The growth in escape room tourism has seen them popping up all over, meaning you no longer have to travel far for your next puzzle fix and in my opinion, some of the very best escape rooms are in Surrey.
