Are you planning a trip to Las Vegas as part of a couple? Las Vegas often gets the reputation of being suited more to stag dos than couples getaways. But having been to Vegas, I would definitely say it is the place for both kinds of trips. You will find a ton of fun things to do in Las Vegas for couples, none of which include gambling.
I visited Las Vegas as apart of a 2 week California and Arizona itinerary, pre-arrival I was unsure what to expect but I ended up loving it (so much so, I plan to do the whole Vegas wedding one day). Sure, Las Vegas can be tacky, but it is good tacky and it is a whole lot of fun.
The Best Things to do in Las Vegas for Couples
Do you you need an ESTA Visa to travel to Las Vegas?
ESTA = Electronic System for Travel Authorization.
Yes, if you are travelling to the United States of America from the UK you will need to apply for an ESTA in advance. The ESTA application for the USA is a relatively simple process and is compulsory for every adult and child travelling to the USA whether it be for business or leisure.
An online ESTA application is also the simplest process as opposed to the traditional US Visa as you will not need to visit the US Embassy. Due to this, it generally means it is a cheaper option as well (£29.95 per person).
Once approved the ESTA duration is 2 years. During this validity period, you are allowed to make an unlimited number of trips to the USA on the same ESTA. Each stay in the USA can last a maximum of 90 consecutive days. Visits to Canada, Mexico or a Caribbean island are included in this overall period, which is perfect if you are planning on doing some travelling while you are there.
When is the best time to visit Las Vegas?
Las Vegas is an all-year-round destination as many of the main attractions are inside. It is important to be aware Las Vegas is in the middle of a dessert, summers can get extremely hot and the winter can get very cold (even with the occasional snow).
Due to the cold weather, you will find it is a lot cheaper to visit Vegas in the winter months in comparison to summer. This can be great if you are looking for a bargain, but not so great if you are planning on taking an excursion to The Grand Canyon.
The height of summer (July and August) is the busiest and hottest time to visit Las Vegas, personally I would avoid it, as you will spend a lot of time inside in the air-conditioning trying to avoid the excessive heat.
I visit in May during the start of summer and was greeted with warm yet comfortable weather.
The Best Hotels in Las Vegas for Couples
Las Vegas is practically just hotels, with each hotel offering something different. Each hotel is basically its own theme park offering attractions, restaurants, casinos, shows and even rollercoasters. Be aware it is free to visit the public areas of every hotel in Las Vegas, they want you to come inside.
Therefore, do not feel you need to book a hotel just because of what it offers.
Luxury hotel for couples in Las Vegas:
Located on the top end of the strip and behind the famous fountains, The Bellagio is the perfect luxury hotel for couples visiting Vegas.
The Bellagio offers an outdoor pool, spa and massage centre, botanical gardens, onsite Cirque du Soliel show as well as a wide variety of casinos and restaurants (fine dining, alfresco and buffet options available.)
The Bellagio is a great option for couples as it offers more tranquil options alongside the typical Las Vegas nightlife.
Mid-range hotel for couples in Las Vegas:
I am guessing you probably guessing the theming of this hotel. New York, New York is located at the start of the Las Vegas Strip.
Boasting a 150-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty, the hotel features a state-of-the-art casino, a 180-degree adrenaline-pumping, and 11 on-site. This a fun hotel and perfect for couples who want to enjoy the exciting nightlife of Las Vegas but also not constantly be surrounded stag dos (Bachelor parties).
Budget hotel for couples in Vegas:
Joined to New York, New York, Excalibur is also located at the start of the strip and is seen as one of the budget Las Vegas strip hotels. This is where I stayed during my trip and I personally loved it.
Due to being a huge castle, it is virtually unmissable. The hotel features 4 seasonal outdoor pools (including an adults-only pool), a full-service spa, 6 restaurants, a 100,000-square-foot casino.
The evenings can get quite loud as there is a daily ‘Tournament of the Kings’ show, however, due to the adjoining New York, New York and Luxor hotels it is easy to escape to somewhere mildly quieter if needed.
Right, you have your ESTA and you have booked your accommodation. Now, let’s plan the best things to do in Vegas for couples.
Explore the hotels
I already mentioned that all of the hotels are free to visit and it is probably the top thing to do in Las Vegas.
Allocate time to wander around each hotel and take in everything they have to offer. Do not miss the Gondolas at The Venetian or if you are feeling brave then take on the breathtaking rides at the top of the Stratosphere Tower.
Each hotel in Las Vegas is like a theme park of its own and much more than just casinos. A lot of people get put off believing the hotels are just for gambling, however, this is not the case at all.
Take an open helicopter ride down the Strip
What better way to see the action than from an open-door helicopter. Experience a bird’s eye view of the Las Vegas Strip at night by taking a Helicopter Flight. The Las Vegas activity perfect for couples, families, and for special occasions (such as a marriage proposal!)
This once in a lifetime tour will fly you straight over the Las Vegas strip allowing you to see the world’s entertainment capital from above. The open-door helicopter also allows you to dangle your feet out – perfect for an extra adrenaline rush.
There are only a limited number of flights each day, therefore, if this is something you want to do then you will need to book in advance.
Zipline over Fremont Street with Slotzilla
Fremont Street is known as the Las Vegas Old Town, in this area you will find a mix of bars, restaurants and of course, Slotzilla.
Slotzilla is a zipline which flies you horizontally over Fremont Street at 40mph for $25. It is a pure adrenaline rush and definitely worth waiting in line for. Slotzilla has two lines running at the same time, making it a perfect activity for couples visiting Vegas.
Take a day tour to The Grand Canyon
This is a must for anyone visiting Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon has to be seen.
There are multiple ways to get to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas, including a helicopter flight (the most expensive but quickest way) and by plane.
However, I would encourage you to book onto a guided full-day tour. This is the tour I did and it was honestly fantastic, the full-day tour by jeep offers the chance to experience the Hoover Dam and the West Rim of the Grand Canyon all in one day.
The majority of the helicopter tours go to the South Rim, which is a lot more touristy and busy, the west rim offers a quieter experience of the Grand Canyon. A full-day tour also allows you to walk around and take in a lot more of the Grand Canyon.
This was without a doubt, the best thing I did in Las Vegas and I will book it again when I go back. It is strongly advised you book in advance, therefore, if you want to do this then book it now to avoid disappointment.
Relax in the Spa Bellagio
If you are looking for a relaxing thing to do as a couple in Las Vegas book an afternoon or a day at the Bellagio’s Spa. Spa Bellagio was the first truly extravagant spa to open in Vegas, and it still is amazing. With 55,000 square feet and 56 treatment rooms, it’s not just a massage, it’s an experience.
It is also one of the few places in Vegas where you can get a Watsu treatment. Watsu, performed in the water, combines Zen Shiatsu and stretching while gently floating in a private 94-degree pool.
Take in a world-class show
Las Vegas is the home of night-time entertainment but if partying or gambling is not your thing, one of the top and romantic things to do in Las Vegas for couples is to watch one of the many shows.
Each night world-class acts perform at the various hotels along the strip, everything from music concerts to circus acts to magicians. Even Aerosmith have a residency at the MGM during 2020.
Artists and shows are constantly updated, therefore, make sure to check the official Vegas tourism website to find out who you can watch.
A romantic ride on the High Roller
When it comes to Las Vegas attractions for couples, one in particular rises to the top. Take your love to all new heights aboard the High Roller, the world’s tallest observation wheel.
The 360-degree views rise 550 feet above the centre of the Strip and the perfect way to see the buzz of Vegas from above.
Advance booking is not required for the high roller, but during peak times it can get busy, this ticket will allow you to skip-the-line.
The Go Las Vegas Card
If you are planning on doing multiple attractions listed above, you may benefit from buying a Go Las Vegas Attraction Card. The card entitles the holder to free entry to 45+ Las Vegas attractions during 2, 3, 4 or 5 consecutive days, and save up to 65% off ticket admission prices.
Attractions include the High Roller, half-day tour of the Hoover Dam, Eiffel Tower Experience at Paris Las Vegas, Stratosphere Observation Deck Plus VIP Access plus a ton more.
Purchase a 3 or more day pass and get your choice of 1 premium attraction which includes a helicopter ride over the Vegas Strip or a full-day tour of the Grand Canyon.
The Go Las Vegas card will save you a lot of money if you plan on doing a lot of activities in Las Vegas. You can purchase the pass here for the best price.
Las Vegas can often get a bad reputation for just being a tourist location for gambling and partying, which it definitely can be for, but it also has another side making it a great destination for couples. So, apply for your ESTA, book your hotel and discover all of the great things to do in Las Vegas for couples.
