One of my favourite things about travelling is sampling the different dishes served around the world, so I asked a group of fellow travel bloggers to share their favourite street food from around the world and now I have a so many additions to my food travel list.

Dish: Langos
Country: Hungary
“I got it in Budapest’s beautiful Central Market Hall. It’s basically fried dough (think funnel cake) topped with sour cream, cheese, and garlic. I saw versions with tomatoes and other veggies, but a local friend insisted that no Hungarian would put vegetables on their Lángos. She was equally horrified to see they were selling sweet versions. It was hot, flaky, garlicky delicious. Highly recommend!” – Bridget from

Dish: Thai Pineapple Chicken Curry
Country: Thailand
This tasty Thai dish was one of my favourite things to eat while in Bangkok. It’s a mixture of curry chicken, rice, chopped vegetables and pineapple chunks. It wasn’t too spicy but still very savoury. Best of all, it targets several food groups and is very affordable. This meal is especially great when the pineapple is used as your plate! Dish: Parantha 
Country: India
“Despite a rich variety of street food available in India, I prefer classic options. My choice is Parantha (it’s a type of flat bread) from North Indian specials. If you ever visit Parantha Walli Galli in old Delhi, you might be confused which one of 100 types to choose. There are sweet and spicy options, with fruits and with vegetables, fried and made in tandoor. My favorite is Paneer(it’s Indian white fresh Cheese) Parantha with achaar (it’s type of vegetable and fruit pickle)! It’s so yuumm!” – Natalia from

Dish: Guatemalan BBQ
Country: Guatemala
Right by the shores of Lake Atitlan, a local Mayan woman cooks up an absolute storm of a Guatemalan BBQ! She grills spicy chicken and plantain and serves with deliciously cooked rice, beans and the tenderest Guatemalan avocado! A huge plate with all the above costs a mere 11 quetzals – which is under $1.50! There’s even a covered seating area with an absolutely stunning view of the volcano fringed lake. Be sure not to miss this delight on a trip to Panajachel! – Claire from
Dish: Hopper / Appa
Country: Sri Lanka
‘Appa’ or ‘Hopper’ is a crunchy white pancake with a fluffy and sticky core. The batter is made with finely grounded rice flour and coconut milk, some salt and a little bit of yeast and then cooked into a thin crunchy pancake. I love hoppers because you can taste its crispy edge and sticky interior in a single bite. The hopper made adding an egg to the hopper while it’s on the cooker is called an Egg-hopper.Normally, hoppers are served with a homemade juicy chilly paste made of red chili and onion.It’s one of the best and cheap dish you must try on the Sri Lankan Streets. – Shenali from Travel me Sri Lanka photo:  Ankierenique
Dish: Pastes
Country: Mexico
I recently took a trip to the mountains of Hidalgo and found that the most common and traditional food there are pastes (that’s pasties to me and you)! Because of the British influences back in the mining age, they have taken the traditional English pasty and made it Mexican! The result is a delicious mix of fluffy yet crunchy pastry, with a spicy exotic filling. They have so many different flavours but my favourite is the Chicken Mole Rojo Paste. Mole Rojo a traditional Mexican dish made from 5 different chillies, dark cocoa beans and nuts, delicious!! – Fern from
Dish: Pupusa
Country: El Salvador
“Pupusa are an El Salvadorian staple that can be found all over the country, but it can also be easily found in Washington DC because of the big El Salvadorian population in the area. I grew up eating pupusa, which is probably one of the reasons why I love them so much, but another reason is that there is and the endless array of flavor options! In El Salvador you can find pupusa restaurants with long lists of flavors, but the standard flavors are cheese, bean & cheese, revuelta (meat/chicharon, beans, and cheese), and, my favorite, loroco and cheese. The easiest way to describe a pupusa is to say that it’s the thicker type of tortilla with different things cooked on the inside and served with pickled cabbage and salsa.” – Tracey from


Dish: Cendol
Country: Malaysia
“Declared a Malaysian Heritage food, Cendol has long been one of the favorite dessert in Malaysia. This is especially true in Malacca and Penang, the 2 historical port, where the dish first got the life of its own. It is simply a bowl of shaved ice bathed in mixture of palm sugar and coconut milk, not to forget a generous amount of worm like rice flour jelly. What make it so great, I guess it is the explosion of flavors and the fact that it is extremely soothing to have one under the hot sun in Penang!” – Vivian from miss happy feet

Country: Vietnam
Pho is Vietnam’s most famous dish, and for good reason–it’s kind of the most brilliant concoction ever. Think bones and cuts of meat simmering with spices for hours (sometimes days) to create the richest broth your mouth has ever had the pleasure of tasting, spicy chilies, and fresh herbs. Country: United States of America
“Our favorite NYC Street food is Halal Guys. They offer a hot, steaming platter of chicken or gyro served over rice and topped with their proprietary white sauce. If you are looking for an alternative to the standard New York Hot Dogs, there’s nothing better!” – Kevin and Christina from
Dish: Egg Waffle
Country: Hong Kong
“A special snack common in Hong Kong and China with waffles made in egg shapes. Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, their sweetness and perfect blend of texture is absolutely amazing and I am addicted to them. They are now offered in a plethora of flavours as well, including chocolate, sweet potatoes and mocha.” – Nam from

Dish: Bhel Puri
Country: India
“Bhel Puri is a savory street food made out of puffed rice, vegetables and tangy tamarind sauce. This low-calorie, healthy street-food is widely famous among women across India. I absolutely love to gorge upon this delicious, tongue tickling snack on the street side. How I wish someone take me back to my childhood!” – Akriti from Alphatraveller

My favourite street is still the incredible ramen burgers from the guys at Pimp my Ramen in Borough Market, London. If you ever find yourself in Greenwich then you have to try these delicious filipino inspired burgers, they are just amazing. ( Read all about them here!)

    I want to try a hopper in Sri Lanka so much!
    Some of my favourites include dampfnudel in Frankfurt, cabbage pancakes in Seoul and egg waffles in Hong Kong.
